About Me
Dr. Patel is Associate Vice President of Translational Research and Director of Cancer Pharmacology & Pharmacogenomics at Atrium Health Levine Cancer and Associate Director for Shared Resources Management at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also Associate Professor of Cancer Biology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Patel received his Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy and completed an oncology pharmacogenomics postdoctoral fellowship at the UNC Center for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy.
Dr. Patel leads cancer pharmacology research with an emphasis on pharmacogenomics research and implementation and oversees pharmacogenomics integration across the health enterprise. His projects range from gene discovery and translational studies to prospective interventional trials using pharmacogenomics to optimize anticancer and supportive care therapies.
Dr. Patel has published over 170 articles, editorials, book chapters and abstracts on the topics of pharmacogenomics, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical sciences. He provides guest lectures on pharmacogenomics to Schools of Pharmacy across North Carolina. Dr. Patel is Deputy Associate Editor for the Journal of Supportive Care in Cancer and Pharmacology Editor for HemOnc Today.
Dr. Patel has received numerous awards for his work including Charlotte Agenda's 30 Under 30 Award, the Associate for Value-Based Cancer Care's 40 Under 40 in Cancer Award, the American Society of Health System Pharmacist (ASHP) Best Practice Award and Literature Award for Innovation in Pharmacy Practice, and the STRIPE Double Helix Award for Excellence in Advancing Pharmacogenomics Through Collaboration.
