About Me
I am an assistant professor of cardiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
In my clinical practice as the medical director of nuclear cardiology and cardiac PET at Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, I focus on critical care, adult clinical cardiology, non-invasive cardiac imaging, advanced cardiac imaging and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Conditions I treat include congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and arrhythmias.
My board certifications are in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, cardiovascular CT and nuclear cardiology. I am a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
I currently conduct research in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Past research interests include dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and anticoagulation post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). I have also conducted research in selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) therapy and the left ventricular assist device (LVAD).
Other research studies include long-term implantable cardiac rhythm devices post-heart transplant; chronic total occlusion (CTO); obesity and heart disease; cardiac support devices; the use of echo to optimize atrioventricular (AV) synchronization with leadless pacemakers; ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) quality improvement; and quality improvement in medicine with an interest in associated clinical trials in these areas.
I received my undergraduate degree in biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my medical degree at East Carolina University. I completed residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Virginia.
