About Me

Nadine J. Barrett, PhD, MS, MPH, is a nationally recognized leader in developing transformative multilevel interventions to advance research and improve health outcomes through authentic community, healthcare, and academic partnerships to transform healthcare and research. She is the inaugural Vice Dean & Vice Chief Science Officer of Community Engagement, Integration, and Research Access for Advocate Health and Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy, Division of Public Health Sciences.

Dr. Barrett is Chief Engagement Officer and Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement for Atrium Health Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center and Cancer Service Line. She develops and leads enterprise-wide transformative strategies to cultivate trust, center community expertise, and advance research and healthcare to improve health outcomes regionally and nationally. She is the creator of Just ASK, a training program supported by ACCC and ASCO designed to enhance research teams’ capabilities to increase access to clinical research and trials reaching across the US and globally. Prior to joining Wake Forest, Dr. Barrett served 13 years in senior leadership roles at Duke University, as the Founding Director of both the Duke Center for Equity in Research and the nationally awarded, Duke Cancer Institute's Office of Health Equity.

She has held several national leadership roles including President of the national Association of Cancer Care Centers, in Washington DC, and Governor Appointed Chair for the NCDHHS Advisory Council for Cancer Coordination and Control, and she is a contributor to several monumental reports and programs including the AACR Cancer Health Disparities Report and the National Academy of Science Understanding and Addressing Misinformation about Science.
