Students will participate in Endocrinology Clinics with:
- Attending physicians
- Nurse practitioners
- Physician assistants
- Endocrinology fellows and residents
Curriculum
At the completion of the Endocrinology elective rotation students will be further develop
- The ability to diagnose and manage common endocrine disorders including: diabetes, thyroid disorders, lipid disorders, obesity and metabolic bone disease.he
- The ability to recognize less common endocrinopathies including: adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, gonadal dysfunction and calcium disorders.
- The ability to begin initial evaluation and know when to request sub-specialty consultation.
Inpatient Endocrinology Consultations
- Initial evaluation and assessment of consult patients
- Daily monitoring of consult patients' courses and progress
- Students will write complete H&Ps in the WakeOne system, as well as daily progress notes on patients for whom they are caring on the service, as directed by the Endocrinology fellow &/or consult service attending physician.
Endocrinology Clinic:
- Students will see both established and new patients with house staff and faculty.
- There will be opportunities to see patients independently and to shadow providers in the ambulatory setting.
Students will also work with nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified diabetes educators, with expertise in diabetes management
