Program Director for Transformative Stroke Care

The mission of the Program is to expand and synergize translational stroke research to transform stroke care across the continuum within the context of an academic Learning Health System (aLHS). The Stroke programs will specifically address health equity and diversity across the lifespan. We aim to recruit an MD or PhD with knowledge of clinical stroke care, as well as expertise in data systems, analytics, and value-based care, to serve as a Program Director for Transformative Stroke Care. Strong candidates will have a track record of national leadership in clinical data research, experience in alternative scientific models, use of a wide range of data sources and data analysis techniques (such as registry-based trials and causal estimation methods), medical decision making, success in grant writing and awards, and be particularly familiar with clinical science priorities in stroke and, more broadly, neuroscience disorders in general.  Some experience in healthcare economic analyses, particularly those examining the combined clinical and economic outcomes of care, is preferred given the potential to identify opportunities related to value-based care models.

The Director, together with the Associate Director (PhD health services researcher or epidemiologist) will be expected to leverage collaborations with investigators across the entire health system, disciplines, and national networks. Over the long-term, the Director will be expected to develop an enterprise-wide stroke registry, biobank, state-wide trial network, early transport protocols, processes to improve care access and delivery and processes to improve outcomes.

Associate Program Director for Transformative Stroke Care

The mission of the Program is to expand and synergize translational stroke research to transform stroke care across the continuum within the context of an academic Learning Health System (aLHS). The Stroke programs will specifically address health equity and diversity across the lifespan. We aim to recruit a PhD Health Services Researcher or Epidemiologist to serve as an Associate Program Director for Transformative Stroke Care. Strong candidates will have a track record of national leadership in clinical data research, experience in alternative scientific models, use of a wide range of data sources and data analysis techniques (such as registry-based trials and causal estimation methods), success in grant writing and awards, and be particularly familiar with clinical science priorities in stroke and, more broadly, neuroscience disorders in general. Some experience in community-engaged participatory research or healthcare economic analyses, particularly those examining the combined clinical and economic outcomes of care, is preferred given the potential to identify opportunities related to community interventions and value-based care models.

The Associate Director will work with the Director (clinician scientist) and together, they will be expected to leverage collaborations with investigators across the entire Advocate Health Enterprise, disciplines, and national networks. Over the long-term, the Associate Director will assist in developing an enterprise-wide stroke registry, processes to improve care access and delivery, and processes to reduce inequities and improve outcomes.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) serves as the academic core of the Advocate Health system and is among the top 50 research institutions in the United States. In December 2022, Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health formally combined to create one organization called “Advocate Health”. Mr. Eugene A. Woods, MBA, MHA, FACHE, and Mr. Jim Skogsbergh, MHA, FACHE, are Co-Chief Executive Officers of Advocate Health. This new, strategic combination makes Advocate Health the fifth largest nonprofit integrated health system in the nation. Providing care under the names Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, Advocate Health is a national leader in clinical innovation, health outcomes, consumer experience and value-based care. Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients with a combined footprint across 6 states, including Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Wisconsin (Figure 1). Advocate Health is nationally recognized for its expertise in cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, and rehabilitation, as well as organ transplants, burn treatments and specialized musculoskeletal programs. Advocate Health employs nearly 150,000 team members across 67 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations, with more than 21,000 physicians and nearly 42,000 nurses. The health system offers one of the nation’s largest graduate medical education programs with over 2,000 residents and fellows across more than 200 programs. Committed to equitable care for all, Advocate Health provides nearly $5 billion in annual community benefits.
