Ashlesha holds a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara, India, where she focused on the role of Apoptosis-Inducing Factor (AIF) in cell survival and mitochondrial functions in Dictyostelium discoideum under the guidance of Prof. Rasheedunnisa Begum. During her Ph.D., she also worked on the functional aspects of Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) in mitochondrial homeostasis in Dictyostelium discoideum. In Tomar’s lab, she focuses on understanding the crosstalk between mitochondrial calcium and mitochondrial protein quality control in the physiology of cardiac disorders. Outside of science, Ashlesha loves traveling, listening to music, watching series and movies, and arts and crafts.
