Terri Yates, PhD is the Vice Chief Academic Officer – Health Professions for Advocate Health. Her role partners with the Deans, Department Chairs and Presidents of the education programs within Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Carolinas College of Health Sciences, and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. Her role provides the coordination, planning, and strategic vision for the program’s growth and expansion as it relates to Health System workforce needs. 

Terri has been with Wake Forest University School of Medicine for over 16 years. Prior to joining the School of Medicine, Terri held senior level leadership roles in higher education and in software development. With over 11 years within the North Carolina Community College System at a local college, Terri was involved at the local college level and with NCCCS level committees to develop curricula and courses as part of the UNC-NCCCS Comprehensive Articulation Agreement to create transfer pathways from graduates of the NCCCS system to the UNC system schools. Terri was a Vice President for all customer service support functions—including IT and education and training—for a national software development firm.

Terri brings extensive experience in senior level leadership in higher education, curriculum development, planning, implementation, content development, and outcome assessment to develop new programs to meet the challenges of today’s healthcare leaders and team members. Terri also possesses strategic planning skills specifically in the area of disruptive innovation, direction, and planning. 

Terri has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a BS and MA in Mathematics from Wake Forest University. She also holds a Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC) and is an active presenter at national and regional conferences.
