About Me
I have the privilege of working in both emergency medicine and inpatient palliative care settings with Wake Forest Baptist Health. As an emergency physician, I am actively engaged in research to further the integration of palliative medicine in emergency medicine settings. I am also passionate about medical students’ and residents’ education. I desire to convey palliative care principles that are not only applicable in the emergency room, but which can be used by future doctors who will serve in a multitude of settings.
I have published research on high-risk patient populations in emergency settings where early communication of care goals can be essential. I also contributed to recently adopted statewide Emergency Medical Services protocols to ensure that EMS providers have guidance at the ready when called to aid patients receiving palliative or hospice care. Currently, I am studying the application of clinical informatics methods to better identify vulnerable patient populations in emergency settings. Being part of a network of nationally recognized palliative care and emergency physicians creates a wealth of opportunities in both of these fields. Through these efforts, it is my goal to continue to develop care in emergency settings, which is timely, compassionate, and patient-centered.
