Fellow Expectations
Educational activities include weekly scanning shifts with the ultrasound faculty tailored to the fellow's individual skill set. Fellows participate in weekly supervised QA and video-based image review with the ultrasound faculty. Fellows will learn how to develop high-quality lecture and video-based educational content. They are responsible for the development of an academic project for publication. Program faculty will provide guidance and assistance in post-fellowship job search. Fellows will become competent in administrative tasks related to ultrasound program leadership.
Fellows will provide weekly scanning shifts for residents and medical students. The fellow will perform or supervise at least 1,000 ultrasound examinations during the fellowship and will acquire a standard minimum ultrasound knowledge base as outlined in the fellowship curriculum manual. The fellow is responsible for preparing and giving two lectures to the residents, with a focus on more advanced ultrasound applications. The fellow will facilitate one ultrasound journal club for the residents and faculty. Fellows will participate in four hours of weekly QA with the ultrasound director and add progressive QA responsibilities throughout the year. The fellow will attend one of the following annual conferences:
- American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine
- Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship
- American College of Emergency Physicians
- Society for Academic Emergency Medicine conference
Fellows work clinically for 60 hours a month as junior faculty in one of our affiliate emergency departments.
