Our program’s curricula facilitate both practical and theoretical learning opportunities using the latest radiation therapy and diagnostic radiology equipment. We use state-of-the-art equipment to deliver the best possible care to our patients. You will have the opportunity to train and learn in a clinical environment, enabling you to pursue a variety of careers after graduation.

The principal goal of the program is to produce graduates that are competitive candidates for CAMPEP-Accredited Residencies in Medical Physics.

With that principal in mind, the didactic training in the curriculum includes the following core subject areas in order to align with CAMPEP’s required focus areas. You will be required to perform adequately in the 7 required courses designated by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in order to be eligible for board certification in medical physics:

Radiation Therapy Physics  Radiological Physics
Physics of Medical Imaging
Radiation Biology for Physicists
Anatomy and Physiology
Medical Health Physics
Professionalism and Ethics

Elective Courses and Hands-on Clinical Training

Elective courses are offered to allow you to pursue a specific interest that aligns with a desired career track. Elective offerings include coursework in the medical physics program or may be drawn from other Wake Forest graduate programs in computer science, physics, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, mathematics, among others. A total of 6 credit hours of elective coursework is required for all MS and PhD students.

Students in our program also have access to the Proteomics and Metabolomics Shared Resource and will have conference attendance supported in cases where they present their original research. In addition, an institutional membership in the Radiation Research Society is available to all students, and the program provides an AAPM student membership to all enrolled students.

Upon request, sample plans of study are available from the program for the graduate certificate, and for the MS and PhD degrees.
