Alumni can show their support for the Wake Forest School of Medicine, its students and its mission by becoming active members in the Medical Alumni Association (MAA).

Sustained by gifts from MD alumni, parents, house staff alumni, friends, organizations, corporations and foundations, the MAA Annual Fund meets the school's priority needs as determined by the dean and administrators.

We are always looking for ways to engage alumni through programs, contact with students and faculty, social events, and other activities.

The MAA, founded in the 1940s, has a membership of more than 12,000 physicians who are graduates of the medical school's MD program and former house staff (resident staff) at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. School of Medicine faculty, with the exception of alumni and house staff alumni who are active members, are associate members.

The association is guided by the MAA Board, an advisory group of 28 elected members and additional appointees from among the alumni, current house staff, student body and faculty. The board works with staff from the Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations and school administration to develop beneficial programs and enhance communication among all members of the School of Medicine family.

MAA Annual Fund

Gifts from alumni to the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) Annual Fund allow the School of Medicine to maintain its high standards and to continue attracting the most talented medical students, regardless of their financial needs.

The fund's primary role is to preserve the school's mission of excellence in medical education. The fund provides unrestricted funding for priority needs, such as scholarship support, library resources,  faculty support, and the maintenance and expansion of educational programs and facilities.

Scholarships provided through the MAA Annual Fund give the school a competitive edge in attracting the most promising students.

Events and Outreach

The MAA also sponsors various events and programs for alumni, students, current and former house staff, and parents.
