I am from Bristol, VA, and went to undergraduate and medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University. I completed pediatrics residency at East Tennessee State University, and during that time, I enjoyed returning to my hometown area and caring for patients in Appalachia.
Wake Forest is a great fit for me, as we care for many babies from rural western North Carolina at Brenner Children's. My research interests include neonatal opioid withdrawal and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Wake Forest encourages fellows to develop original research projects, and I have felt encouraged and supported every step of the way. Our clinical practice is evidence-based, and the fellows are involved in quality improvement projects.
Winston-Salem is great place to live if you enjoy outdoor activities. There are many great hiking trails within an hour, and my favorite, Pilot Mountain, is only 30 minutes away from my apartment. Also, it is a four-hour drive to the beach and three-hour drive to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about our fellowship program.
