My name is Jeff Kartchner and I am one of the senior ophthalmology residents at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Originally from Tucson, AZ, I completed by bachelors at BYU in Physiology and Developmental Biology. I then went on to medical school at the University of Arizona. My wife, three kids (ages 7, 5, and 2) and I have loved the transition from the West to the South! We were blown away by everyone’s hospitality, have enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, and are amazed that plants seem to grow here spontaneously (a new concept for those having always lived in the desert). Outside of residency I enjoy running, hiking, indoor & sand volleyball, and dabble in woodworking. Ophthalmology has lived up to everything I’d dreamed it would be. I absolutely love my chosen profession and a large part of that comes from being trained at Wake Forest Baptist. The department is anchored on resident education and the success of its residents, and I couldn’t be happier with where we have landed for training. My current plans are to enter comprehensive private practice somewhere back West closer to family and home.
