Pain Medicine Fellowship Application Process

The Pain Medicine Fellowship program at Wake Forest School of Medicine is a one-year training program and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and was awarded a full ten-year accreditation cycle in 2012.

We offer six ACGME fellowship positions through the Pain Medicine Fellowship Match.

By June 30, prospective candidates must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in one of the following four medical disciplines:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Neurology
  • Physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R)
  • Psychiatry

Application Process

Students interested in pursuing the fellowship program are required to apply using the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and documents listed below. Candidates who match will be notified by email of available dates to schedule an interview.

  1. Complete your application through ERAS
  2. Register with the NRMP

Required Documents

As part of the ERAS process, prospective fellows will need to submit the following documentation:

  • USMLE Step I, II, and III scores
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Exchange Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates certification (if applicable)
  • Personal statement or letter of interest explaining career choice and goals
  • Four letters of recommendation to be addressed to the program director
  • Current photograph

Interview Process

Invitations for interviews will be sent by email from our fellowship coordinator. Interviews will be held during the summer months.

Foreign Medical Graduates

We accept foreign medical graduates with J1 visas into our program. We look for well-qualified candidates and prefer applicants who have had U.S. clinical experience within the application year. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
