Research Initiatives and Highlights

One of our primary research initiatives is Functional Outcomes in Cardiovascular Patients Undergoing Surgical Hip Fracture Repair (FOCUS), which is a transfusion strategy for patients with cardiovascular disease who are having surgery to repair a hip fracture. The study is looking to determine if a more aggressive transfusion strategy in these patients is associated with improved functional recovery and decreased risk of adverse postoperative outcomes such as acute myocardial infarction or death.

Some of our other current research includes:

  • mobile health (mHealth) and other technologies to improve the delivery of primary care
  • Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes trial (ACCORD)
  • Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention trial (SPRINT)
